Senior Lecturer

I am  a Senior Lecturer in the Continuing Professional Development Team for nursing and am currently the Programme Lead for the certificate/diploma in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety and Clinical Leadership and management short course. Prior to me joining the CPD team in march 2023, I worked within the
pre-registration nursing team for over 5 years.

I had previously worked in clinical practice for 30 years in many different roles across various acute trusts in the North East.  I have held a variety of senior clinical nursing posts, including Lead Nurse for Cancer and Chemotherapy services, Clinical Operational Manager and Matron for both Medicine and Surgical Services. My Specialist areas of interest are Advanced Communication Skills, Leadership and Management, Oncology and End of Life Care. I am passionate about Effective and Ethical leadership as this can make a massive difference in the workplace and subsequently to clinical care.  I am a coach for the National Student Leadership in Health care programme, and an accredited advanced communications skills facilitator as I believe both can positively influence and enhance student/patient experience.

My Masters Degree is in Academic and Professional learning, something I have always been passionate about, as I believe evidence based practice underpins quality clinical care, which subsequently improves patient outcomes.  I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
