Lecturer and AESiP - Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship

I am a Lecturer and an Apprenticeship Educational Supervisor in Practice in the School of Nursing and Health Science.

I joined the University of Sunderland in 2022 following a career as a Registered Mental Health Nurse with the National Health Service (NHS). Throughout my career, I have gained valuable experience by working in a range of clinical and non-clinical settings. These included Mental Health Adult and Older Peoples Inpatient Services,
Community/Crisis Services and a Patient Safety Team in the Nursing and Governance Directorate which was supported by learning in academic university institutions.

Teaching and supervision

I am a joint module leader on BSc (Hons) Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship for the Foundations of Nursing and my current role includes personal tutoring, dissertation supervision, and working as an Apprenticeship Educational Supervisor in Practice.

Research interests for potential research students

  • Patient Safety
  • Nursing and Governance

Prior to working at the University of Sunderland, I worked for the NHS for 26 years and in my previous role for six years as a Serious Incident Investigator.

During my time with the National Health Service, in 2014, the NHS Trust supported my development to undertake and complete a BA (Hons) in Practice Innovation. I then completed and achieved an MSc in Global Leadership and Management in Healthcare in 2023.
