I am Deputy Head of Undergraduate GP Teaching at the School of Medicine and lead clinical skills teaching.
Teaching and supervision
I enjoy teaching medical students. I taught throughout my training in Oxford and Newcastle upon Tyne, before joining the Sunderland Career Start scheme in 2017 and working with Professor Wilkes' team on the successful GMC and HEFCE bids to set up our new medical school.
I lead clinical skills teaching and also work strategically with the GP Clinical Team to deliver placements across primary care in the North of England. I teach students myself in a local practice, and I champion the need for expert generalists in the community to deliver outstanding care for our aging, and ever more medically complex population.
Research
I recently completed a master's in medical education at the University of Cambridge exploring medical educators' experience of reflective practice. I currently lead research projects focused on reflective practice, widening participation, and community health.
I am a General Practitioner and practising expert in whole-person care and the unabridged subject of medicine. Through my university roles and previous involvement with GP recruitment nationally (GPNRO) and internationally (WAST), I have sustained a track record for dependable clinical leadership. I have helped to initiate and scale up diverse projects addressing workforce challenges across varied healthcare economies, especially through widening participation.
