Phase 1 Simulation Lead, Phase 1 OSCE Co-Lead

I graduated with Distinction from Newcastle University in 2019 with MBBS (Hons). After completing foundation training in the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, I started working as a clinical teaching fellow at Sunderland Royal Hospital teaching the first cohort of the University of Sunderland School of Medicine.

While working as a clinical teaching fellow, I studied towards a master's in Medical Education and graduated with Distinction in 2023. This research, alongside my interests in simulation and clinical reasoning, prompted my transition into the University of Sunderland School of Medicine as the Phase 1 Simulation Lead and OSCE Co-Lead. In this role, I work closely with the assessments team to deliver a suite of clinical assessments for our first and second-year medical students. I am also responsible for designing a delivering a novel curriculum of early years simulation experience to help our students prepare for clinical practice.

I currently share my time between working at the University and practicing as a trust grade doctor at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Teaching and supervision

I have extensive teaching experience in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. At present, my primary teaching responsibilities are focused on developing and implementing our pre-clinical simulation teaching strategy for students in Phase 1 of MBChB Medicine.

My work on the SIMLive! project was recently presented at the Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) 2024 National Conference, where I was awarded the TASME Teaching Innovation and Excellence Prize.

Research

My academic research interests are in clinical reasoning and healthcare simulation. I have recently completed my master's research in barriers to clinical reasoning in high-fidelity simulation for fourth-year medical students at the University of Sunderland. I am also interested in the quality assurance of medical school assessments.
