Senior Lecturer in Video and New Media

I am a Senior Lecturer and teach BA (Hons) Film Production. I have been involved in media production, digital media and film for around 25 years. I have worked on feature films, international television programmes, international media corporation projects, international documentaries, and interactive media. I have supervised award-winning student filmmakers, and I run my own digital media company Mikigami.

Research

My main area of research is Black British/English Cinema and its relationship to performed Englishness within the English heritage costume drama. If nations are imagined, cultural traditions invented, gender roles learned and performed, then why is the performance of Englishness within English heritage costume drama still reliant upon biological exclusivity? My research challenges this notion by practically reimagining this genre through the filmmaking process. My films provide an alternative imagineered landscape of an inclusive performed Englishness.

Through my digital media company Mikigami, I am also involved in researching, producing, and creating VR360 short films for the new disruptive technologies and distributive channels.
