Associate Head
I am the Head of the Law School in the Faculty of Business, Law and Tourism. Prior to joining the University, I was a Senior Lecturer and Visiting Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Malaya. I hold a PhD in Law from the National University of Malaya where I was awarded the Zamalah Fellowship Scheme.
My research spans the area of information technology law, international humanitarian law and legal research methodology. I am the author and co-author of more than 70 research papers, book chapters, conference papers as well as widely acclaimed books.
I have served on many conferences, seminars, forums, and workshop programme committees and delivered talks at various panels, NGOs, research centres, and international such as ICRC and other human rights organisations. My research findings have been disseminated in internationally respected outlets such as Computer Law and Security Review, Springer, Brill, Elgar, The International Association of IT Lawyers, IGI Global and World Science Publisher. I am an International Scientific Member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of International Law and a past member of numerous professional committees and boards. Currently, I am a member of the Editorial Review Board of the International Journal of Digital Crime and Forensics (IJDCF), the Journal of International Migration (Wiley Online Library), the Journal of Jus Cogens: A Critical Journal of Philosophy of Law and Politics (Springer Nature) and book reviewer of World Science Publishers.
I have been awarded the University of Malaya Excellence Award for outstanding achievement in the category of Book Publication for my book “Cyber terrorism: The legal and enforcement issues” in 2019. The book also has been identified as one of the World Science Publisher's most downloaded eBooks in 2020. I was the 2019, 2020, and 2021 recipient of the University of Malaya Excellent Service Award.
In 2020, I was awarded a scholarship by The Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research (OeAD-GmbH), Centre for International Cooperation and Mobility (ICM) to conduct my research on legal issues of blockchain at the Institute of Telecooperation, Johannes Kepler University.
I have obtained several national and international grants and successfully completed the research which brought credit to the sponsors. I have been awarded and collaborated with the ministry of higher education of China, Austria, Malaysia, the EU Erasmus grant and the Association of commonwealth universities (ACU).
My latest book, Regulatory Aspects of Artificial Intelligence on Blockchain (IGI Global, 2021), explores the convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the blockchain which affects many aspects from food supply chain logistics and healthcare record sharing to media royalties and financial security. The book identifies and offers solutions for overcoming legal consequences that pertain to the application of AI into the blockchain system.
