Senior Lecturer and Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellow
I am a Senior Lecturer and Vice-Chancellor’s (VC) Research Fellow in the School of Engineering at University of Sunderland and have been working in academia and industry for more than 15 years.
Before joining the University, I worked at Newcastle National College Group – NCG, UK as a Programme Leader in Engineering and at The Open University (OU), UK as an Honorary Associate (Researcher) in the Department of Engineering and Innovation. I was also a Research Candidate at OU for MPhil leading to PhD on fully-funded studentships by Rolls Royce Limited, East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA), and OU.
Previously, I was a full-time Lecturer and Assistant Professor at NED University of Engineering and Technology, Pakistan.
I did my PhD in Materials Engineering from the Department of Engineering and Innovation, OU, Masters (MEng) in Structural Engineering, and Bachelor (BEng) in Civil Engineering at NED University.
I have a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in Mathematics and Numeracy Specialists from Teesside University, UK. I am also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and recognised as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
Teaching and supervision
I am module leader of the BEng final year project module for on-campus and all TNE (transnational education) centres in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka.
I teach modules including mechanical technology, applied mechanics, engineering mechanics, engineering mathematics, and digital design principles.
In my previous experience, I have also taught modules such as structure analysis and design, applied mathematics, and engineering materials.
I supervise postgraduate and undergraduate degree final-year projects of students in the UK and in our overseas partner institutes in Malaysia and Africa.
Research interests for potential research students
I am open to accepting applications for self-funded postgraduate research (MPhil/PhD and Visiting Scholars) with a focus on additive manufacturing and 3D printing, with a specific emphasis on engineering materials characterisations, the study of residual stresses for metal parts, and a deep exploration into the domains of structural engineering and mechanics of solids.

My research expertise covers additive manufacturing (AM), material science, advanced materials characterisation, and the study of residual stresses and mechanics of solids.
I have been actively engaged in various AM technologies commonly known as 3D printing and rapid manufacturing such as fused deposition modelling (FDM), stereolithography (SLA), and atomic diffusion additive manufacturing (ADAM). My research spans a wide array of materials, including polymers, composites, and metal alloys, with a particular focus on applications in the aerospace, automotive, and medical industries.
