Professor of Professional Practice

I am a former police officer with over 40 years of experience primarily within the area of major crime investigation.

In 1977, I joined Northumbria Police and retired on national secondment as a Detective Chief Inspector in 2007. I then continued in my national role as the National Interview until I took up my post at the University.

I received an MBE in the 2009 New Year's Honours List for Services to Policing. That same year, I was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University for my work within the field of investigative interviewing both nationally and internationally.
