Professor of Professional Practice
I am a former police officer with over 40 years of experience primarily within the area of major crime investigation.
In 1977, I joined Northumbria Police and retired on national secondment as a Detective Chief Inspector in 2007. I then continued in my national role as the National Interview until I took up my post at the University.
I received an MBE in the 2009 New Year's Honours List for Services to Policing. That same year, I was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University for my work within the field of investigative interviewing both nationally and internationally.
Teaching and supervision
- I am Module Leader for MA Investigative Management and BA (Hons) Applied Investigation.
Research
I am actively involved in continuing the development of research concerning the interviewing of significant witnesses and suspects within major crime investigation.
