Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance

I began my academic journey at the University of Sunderland in 2009 as an Academic Tutor. At the same time, I completed my PGCE in Mathematics Education at the University of Sunderland in 2010, I taught in Secondary and Further Education, including Special Needs Schools and Behavioural Units, where I honed my teaching approaches.

In 2015, I was appointed as a Lecturer in Finance and Accounting.

This background of extensive pedagogical experience led to innovative approaches to learning that effectively support all types of learners in their educational pursuits. I have developed and taught a range of accounting and finance-based modules that are embedded across different Programmes. This includes but is not limited to Financial Governance, International Financial Reporting, Auditing, and Management and Financial Accounting, among others. Currently, I am Deputy Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance (with Professional Exemptions).

 

In 2021, I received the University's Most Inspirational Teacher Award for my dedication and innovative teaching methods that positively impacted students

I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and have continued to engage with various learning initiatives such as my current role as Assessment and Innovation Champion for the Business School, a 3-year University-wide transformation programme to rethink assessment across all programmes.

 



Teaching and supervision

My current teaching and supervision for both undergraduates and postgraduates is focused on financial accounting. I am Module Leader and teach on:

  • UGB222 Management Accounting
  • MTG306 Financial Governance
  • UGB389 Strategic Management Accounting (Professional)
  • DLMM01 Financial Management and Control
  • DLMM14 Management Accounting


Supervision:

  • Undergraduate and Masters

Research interests for potential research students

My interests include, but are not limited to, environmental accounting and behavioural finance, financial accounting standards, implications on global capital market funding for firms and ratio analysis, small charities CSR and accounting and disclosure for charities.
