Sean was the first member of his family to study for a degree and chose to move from Carlisle to Sunderland to study Sports Science from 1996-1999. Having had an excellent student experience, he stood for Sports and Recreation Officer. This sabbatical role gave him the incentive to work for the University, where he has now worked for over 20 years, starting out as a recruitment assistant and guest lecturer.
He was then appointed as the University's first Sports Development Officer before progressing to Sport Performance, Development and Activities Manager for the Institute of Sport within Student Journey.
Sean has experience of working in the private sector at County Sports Partnerships and Basketball England. While living and working in Sunderland, he has seen the University and city grow into a great place to study, live and work.
