Liz Barnes has worked in Higher Education for 35 years, including her last six years as Vice Chancellor of Staffordshire University.
She has worked in three other universities, including Teesside University where she spent 23 years. With a passion for education, she is also a Member of five Multi-Academy Trusts, Chair of Achieve Training in Stoke-on-Trent, a Governor at Middlesex University, and co-Chair of the Stoke-on-Trent Opportunity Area.
In 2019 she was awarded a CBE for her services to Higher Education and she is a Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire.
