Michael is the Clinical Lead of a Pain Team within the NHS, having completed a BSc in Physiotherapy and a master’s in Pain Management. Michael began their higher education journey at the University of Sunderland, which laid the foundation for a distinguished career in healthcare and public service.
In 2019, they were elected to Sunderland City Council following five years of serving on boards across the city within the healthcare and education sectors. Currently, Michael serves as the Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Childhood Poverty, and Skills, playing a key role in shaping policies to support vulnerable populations.
Previously, they chaired the city’s Planning Committee, overseeing significant urban developments, and served as Chair of Health and Wellbeing Scrutiny, focusing on improving public health outcomes. Their experience in both healthcare and governance reflects a deep commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of their community.
